The The Ultimate List of Virtual Assistant Companies You Must Know

A virtual assistant company is simply an organization, company, or enterprise that provides outsourcing services. Outsourcing is the practice of sending jobs outside a company. Many businesses today outsource to a company or an individual. Why do companies outsource? Mainly because the cost of outsourcing especially overseas is minimal in terms of salary and benefits compare to creating another department in their company and employing workers. A lot of outsourcing companies have talented and skilled workers, so quality and productivity can be easily achieved. This includes VA companies, independent home-based virtual assistants, and freelancers. Most of these companies are from India, Ukraine, Philippines, Pakistan, Brazil, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, United States, Serbia, Russia, and a lot more.

Should I join a VA Company?

It’s up to you to decide. Why? ..... Before deciding on joining a VA Company, here are things that you need to consider:

• Location - Are you willing to work in an office or at home? VA Companies nowadays offer either work-from-home or office-based. If you plan to work at home, research companies that offer home-based work. See below list of VA Companies.

• Time - Assess your time! Are you willing to work full time, by the hour, per task, or part-time? Some VA Companies do offer a part-time VA position, which means you have the option to work by the hour or fixed hours perhaps 2-4 hours a day.

• Skills - What are your skills? At what level are your skills? Are you a beginner or advance VA? Do you have experience doing online jobs? Do you have experience working with a client or clients working from home? Many VA Companies usually hire skilled VAs who already have a set of skills, but some of these companies are willing to train newbies as well.

• Rate - Payment, and compensations vary from every VA Companies depending on the country, experiences, and skills. For you to hassle and negotiate your rate, you need to present your worth. How? Here’s my tip during the interview, do express what you can do and what will be your goals and plans. Do mention your skills, capabilities, and experiences.

• Goals - What are your plans and goals in joining? If you are a beginner, joining a VA Company is your best option? Why? You will gain a lot of training and experience. Many VA Companies do provide free training for newbies, so take advantage of this opportunity. The catch will be the payment and compensation which is a bit lower compare to VAs who already have years of experience with advanced skill levels. Once you gained a lot of experience and training working with a VA Company, I propose for you to set up your own. Do work from home. There are many advantages of being an independent VA compare to an office-based VA. Independence, unlimited workload from clients and increased compensations are some of the many advantages I can mention. But, of course, there are a few disadvantages as well as the level of stress, work environment, etc.

Pros & Cons

Base on the above-mentioned assessment, would you join a VA Company? Or, you haven’t decided yet. Here are some pros and cons to help you make your decisions even better. Take note, as I have mentioned above, there are two types of VA companies. The first one, a company that caters options for the VA such as office-based, home-based, or both. The second, a solely office-based company. I will focus on discussing the pros and cons of home-based work. So here it is:

Pros of Working from Home

Thankfully, there are many advantages to working from home. This is what I am facing now, which you could look forward to:

• Flexible Working Hours - Since I became a virtual assistant working from home, there are no more 8-hour shifts morning or evening like in the office. Now, I decide to work at a time I choose where I am most productive.

• Reduced Stress - Now, my stress levels are nearly zero to none. The stressors are all gone. No more stressful commute and commuters day by day. No more stressful office environment every day. No more annoying boss and coworkers. No more office bullying.

• Save Money - Since I already stopped commuting every day, I stopped spending more money. No more gas bills or transportation tickets. I also saved money on what I wear, because I do not need to buy and wear business attire clothes. I wear my pants and tees while working from home.

• Comfortability - Goodbye shoes, suit, and tie, hello tees, pants, joggers, jumpers and slippers. For women, no need to do your hair, put on makeup, or carry a bag. If I have a cough, colds, or feeling feverish I just wear pajamas and a sweater then works on my laptop on a comfy chair.

• Health Increases - Now, I got better sleep. No more stressful hours preparing myself, commuting and working at the office. I eat healthier foods. I got a flexible time to workout. I’m no longer exposed to a toxic work environment filled with harmful germs and bacteria. I am happier and more satisfied than ever before. I bet I will live longer.

• Own Working Environment - Now, I work anywhere I want! Most of the time it is at home, but sometimes when I get bored I work at Starbucks or any cafeteria. Sometimes in a fancy restaurant. Or when I am on vacation abroad, I work in a hotel room or the lobby. As long as I have my laptop and gadgets with fast internet connectivity, I can work anywhere anytime.

• More Time with Family - I spend a lot more quality time with my family and friends since I stopped commuting. My schedule is now flexible were I can reschedule or shift my work anytime. Because of this, I have time to help my family, meet up with a friend, or do other things I want to do.

• Food Preparation - Now, I prepare, cook, and eat my food which is always fresh and healthy. When I was working at an office, I need to bring my meals at work, put it in the refrigerator which stayed cold for hours. Sometimes, I need to preheat it again in the microwave which is unhealthy.

• No Commute - I always hated this, when I was an office worker. The busy streets filled with crowded buses due to the heavy traffic. The commuters in a queue waiting for the bus or train. It is stressful and depressing day by day. I am always surrounded by tired as stressed out commuters, early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Thankfully, all of these are now gone when I started working from home. I do not need to commute every day anymore.

• Autonomy - I was finally able to make my own decisions unlike in the office where I strictly follow some set of rules, structures, and routines.

• Work/Life Balance - Honestly, I got more time for myself, friends and family when I became a virtual assistant. My work/life balance improved a lot.

• Time for Workouts - Thankfully, I got flexible hours of work at home. Because of this, I can do some exercises whenever I want to like running in the morning, walk my pet dog at the park in the afternoon, do some weight lifting or Crossfit at the gym, or play basketball with my buddies.

• Save Time - Waking up early, taking a bath, preparing and eating breakfast, and commute to the office in 30 minutes, one hour, two hours or more are now all gone, which helped you save a lot of time because of your remote work at home. With all those saved time, you can do a lot of things like sleep a bit longer, exercise, have a long breakfast, prep your kids to school, etc.

Cons of Remote Work

Everything has its pros and cons, so work from home is not an exception. Here are the cons of remote working:

• Lack of Productivity - Productivity has been a big issue when working at home. Unavoidable distractions at home will lead to reduced productivity. It is great if you don’t have a boss or supervisor monitoring your work, but some people need a bit of pressure for them to be productive.

• Many Distractions - At home, there are too many distractions such as doing home chores, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, taking care of the kids, or watching your favorite TV show. To focus on your job and get things done, it takes a lot of discipline and focus.

• No Human Interaction - Most of the time, I am working at home even though I got plenty of calls and online meetings. There are no colleagues around to share lunch with. There are no coffee breaks as well. For an introvert like me it is easy, but for most people lack of social interaction is hard.

• Hard to Switch Off - Reality check, work, and life now combined as one when you are working from home. Sometimes, it is hard to separate life and work because you work at home and you’ll work from early morning until late at night. Even though my life revolves around my work, I love what I do. It became my passion.

• Unhealthy Lifestyle - Working from home can improve your overall wellbeing, but it can also be harmful sometimes. If you are starting out and on a tight budget, you’ll rather work on a couch, on a sofa, or dinner table than invest in expensive proper office equipment. This can lead to improper posture and will result in chronic back pain.

As I have mentioned, if your goal is to acquire skills and experiences then an office-based VA company is your best bet. But, if you already have skills and experiences then my suggestion is to choose home-based.

I want to join a VA Company, but how?

Each VA company do have a set of the application process they follow. They will require you to prepare important details, your resume, and an interview.

• Prepare - What do you need to prepare? These VA companies do have an online sign-up process which you can follow on their websites. Commonly, an online sign-up process requires you to sign in your data. This is your username, password, email address and personal information (name, address, birthday, website, social media accounts, etc).

• CV or Resume - Some VA companies require you to attach your CV or resume during or after the sign-up process in your profile. They will also require you to fill up a short bio or tagline. It is a brief description of yourself.

• Tests - Sometimes, they will automatically set some questions for you to answer as part of your online profile on their website.

• Interview - Some VA Companies do interview each applicant after the sign-up process is completed. They will email you to set up an interview via call or video call using apps like Google Hangouts or Skype. So, prepare for the interview and do your best to impress the interviewer.

• Must Know - Before signing up to join a VA Company, it is wise to know their policies, terms and conditions, payment method, and job descriptions. Usually, it is located on pages on their website. Do check about the company’s background, history, reviews, services they offer, and clients. Check also their social media accounts to know more about the company’s activities such as events and updates. Why do you need to do this? To verify the company’s stability and legality. A lot of VA companies nowadays are an illegal, scam, and unstable. I was scammed a couple of times in the past, so watch out.

Where can I join?

Below is the list of VA Companies that you need to know. I also added some Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies offering voice (customer service representative) and non-voice services (virtual assistant and freelancer), and freelance companies. These BPOs and freelance companies are a good stepping stone to gain knowledge and experience if your goal is to become an independent virtual assistant working at home.
